By giving life to animals using the very materials responsible for habitat destruction\, Bordalo II highlights the urgent need for environmental conservation and waste reduction.

DESCRIPTION:All are welcome to this free event!  \nWhen: June 13\, 2025 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM\nSpeaking portion at 6:45pm\nEvent will conclude with a walking public art tour\nWhere: Gallery X on Williams Street\, New Bedford\, MA \n  \n6:00 – 8:00PM\nExhibition: Being Seen: Celebrating Pride in the SouthCoast\nBeing Seen is a community tapestry created by over 100 SouthCoast MA residents from Fall River to Wareham. Over an 18-month+ period\, this project will tour 4 municipalities by its close in November 2026. The accompanying indoor exhibition will provide deeper significance to the public art component while also connecting our region with this important movement by including a focus on the legacy of local figures such as David B. Boyce (1949-2014)\, who was portrayed in the important\, renowned sculpture by artist George Segal\, “The Gay Liberation Monument.” Additional local figures will include local residents directly involved with advocating for Massachusetts’s Marriage Equality Act that paved the way for rest of the nation. \n  \n6:45PM\nWelcoming remarks. Poetry. Artist talk. More Celebrations.\nWelcoming remarks will take place at 6:45 including a reading by New Bedford’s Poet Laureate\, Sarah Jane Mulvey an annual tradition. Mulvey has invited a fellow queer poet as her guest on the stage this night to also perform a piece in honor of the public art festivities. Following introductions\, the “Being Seen” Visiting Creative Director\, Liz Collins (NYC) will provide an artist talk offering insight about her experiences using arts as an activist platform to elevate the queer community. \n7:30PM\nPublic Art Walk \nGuests may partake in a Director’s Tour of the public art component of Being Seen. The tour will start at Gallery X and lead to City Hall\, a main focal point for the artwork. DESCRIPTION:All are welcome to this free event! \nWhen: Wednesday\, October 8th 5:00–7:00 PMSpeaking program begins at 6:00 PM\, featuring students\, alumni\, and other contributors to the exhibition \nWhere: UMass Dartmouth CVPA Campus Gallery \n\nBeing Seen: Celebrating SouthCoast Pride\n  \nJoin DATMA and CVPA who will host the second installation of Being Seen: Celebrating Pride in the SouthCoast at the UMass Dartmouth CVPA Campus Gallery. This special opening highlights the collaboration of CVPA students and alumni\, whose creativity and perspectives have been integral to shaping this regional project. \nBeing Seen is a monumental community tapestry created by over 100 SouthCoast residents from Fall River to Wareham. Over an 18-month period\, this work will travel throughout the region\, concluding in November 2026. The CVPA exhibition expands on the public art installation with additional context\, honoring the LGBTQIA+ community through stories\, archival materials\, and recognition of local advocates. \nThe exhibition features the legacy of figures such as David B. Boyce (1949–2014)\, memorialized in George Segal’s renowned sculpture The Gay Liberation Monument\, as well as SouthCoast residents whose advocacy for Massachusetts’s Marriage Equality Act helped shape national progress. \nLight refreshments will be served at this free event.
