New cohort seeks to create healthier, more connected New Bedford by harnessing creativity of residents

New Bedford residents can get ready for an innovational and imaginative new year, according Margo Saulnier, Creative Strategist for New Bedford Creative.

New Bedford Art Museum/ArtWorks! will virtually recognize those who truly impact the arts community with the Patrons of the Arts Award Friday, Dec. 31. In an area so highly populated by artists and creatives, the Art Museum feels it is fitting to recognize these patrons’ contributions which have greatly impacted and elevated the Southcoast and beyond.

The SouthCoast Community Foundation announced today that 39 nonprofits throughout Southeastern Massachusetts will receive a total of $479,495 to address the impact of COVID-19 on their organizations, programming, and the communities they serve.

Due to popular demand, Massachusetts Design Art and Technology Institute (DATMA) has extended the majestic sculpture named “280 prepared dc-motors, cotton balls, cardboard boxes 13″ x 13″ x 13″, 2011/2021,” by Swiss sound-installation artist Zimoun through Oct. 10.

Amanda Hawkins, Program Coordinator for DATMA, tells us about several public art series and performances in New Bedford, and educational programming the organization offers.

With a focus on art and technology, DATMA organizes a yearly public art initiative in New Bedford. In 2020, MASARY studios created VESSELS, a visual and auditory experience celebrating the city’s fishing ships.
