Underground Railroad Walking Tour with NPS

July 31 @ 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

free

Join National Park Service Ranger, Rufai, for an Underground Railroad walking tour in historic downtown New Bedford.

What do you think would have happened if the millions of formerly enslaved African Americans were educated or given an opportunity to thrive instead of being enslaved? Frederick Douglass, John Jacobs, and Sergeant William Carney all made it. Captain Paul Cuffe, born free, was a sea captain, merchant, and activist who became one of the wealthiest Americans of African and Wampanoag descent.

The tour will end at DATMA’s Safe Station exhibition, where visitors can explore contemporary artwork about the Underground Railroad and Abolitionism in New Bedford.
