New Bedford Science Cafe presents: “Harnessing Tidal Energy; The Cape Cod Railroad Bridge Test Site”
September 14 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
free
Our guest, John Miller, Exec. Dir. of New England Marine Renewable Energy Collaborative, will discuss “Harnessing Tidal Energy; The Cape Cod Railroad Bridge Test Site.”
John will share details about the great potential of this nascent industry & challenges, and report on MRECo’s Bourne site, where tidal turbines made by Littoral Power Systems, a New Bedford company, are being tested. Tidal turbines spinning in 6-knot water flow can capture a force equivalent to wind turbines spinning in a 400 mph wind. John has an MS in engineering from the U. of Washington; and an MBA from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He actively employs his own renewable energy rowing whale boats.
This will be a “hybrid” event. We urge that those who join us in-person be vaccinated. For other Café-goers, we hope to make a videotape (not Zoom) available soon after the event.
