Considering Community
The history, economy, and culture of the SouthCoast region is rooted in the value of ‘shelter’—and who is a shelter for if not its community. From the immigrants arriving to our shores in hopes of creating a new life to the families who have been here for generations, together we create a unique sense of place. Each person, culture, and tradition is instrumental in building a strong community, our true home and shelter. This year’s exhibitions include the following artists; Mark Reigelman (NY, NY), Maxwell Emcays (Chicago, IL), Silvia Lopez Chavez (Boston, MA/ Dominican Republic), and eleven artists from the SouthCoast to be featured in an exhibition entitled, Open Studios on the Sidewalk.
Per our mission, every DATMA exhibition & event is free and open to the public. A special thanks to our dedicated supporters who make it possible for DATMA to keep programming completely accessible to all. Stay tuned and check out the season’s events.

Where tradition meets technology
The history, economy, and culture of the SouthCoast region is rooted in the value of ‘shelter’—from the Underground Railroad that harbored African Americans from slavery, to the 9,100-foot-long hurricane barrier that protects the harbor of the #1 fishing port in the United States. Shelter 2022 featured; Rael San Fratello (California), Fitzcarmel LaMarre (New Bedford, MA), Do Ho Suh (South Korea), Abeer Seikaly (Jordan), Alison Wells (Trinidad and Tobago / New Bedford based), Our Sisters’ School (New Bedford), and rare archival and contemporary images from the U.S.Army Corps of Engineers.
